Poster Possibilities

The Blog is always on the lookout for great tidbits that provide you with the behind-the-scenes FIREPROOF information that will keep you in the know. (Talk about a fun job description!)

Well, the humble Blog is not normally one to brag, but today we bring you something that is so fresh and exciting, that it hasn’t even been officially released yet! That’s right … we have gotten our hands on an early version of what may very well become the movie poster for FIREPROOF.

Now, we can only show this to you under two conditions:
  1. You don’t tell anyone where you saw this.
  2. You do tell us what you think of the look and feel of this.
Okay? Good! Here you go ...Remember, this is not final, but we look forward to your feedback.

I really like it. I'd make Facing the Giants a tad smaller and have it fit on one line at the top. I'm sure you'll plug in cast down the road but two names for now might help it a bit. Maybe not. Love the image, color, layout, etc... Nice job!!

I agree, the color and picture design is incredible. Aren't posters usually more of an 11x17 size? This one seems sorta square.

Also, adding credit info at the bottom along with the movie company logos would look really good.

Very nice!! I can't wait for this movie!

The top line should all be on one line, if you ask me... hey -- you did ask me. =)

AND... I think you should make the "original" photo larger so we can click on it and see if full size.

Does that makes sense?

Why all the secrecy?

It looks great, but, in all aspects of the promotion, please follow 1 Timothy 2:9-10 when it says "likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control..." That poster does not encourage Christian modesty.

Please, follow 1 Timothy 2:9-10.

I like it! Maybe too much blank space at the top? but, maybe you'll be adding more things in later... like release date, etc. Otherwise, I really love it!

I basically like it. However, it looks a lot like a chic flick from the poster!?! While the fireman and his wife should be a big part of the poster, I think there should be a little more excitement/action having to do with the firemen. I was really hoping to encourage local firefighters to see the movie. Not that the poster will scare them away, but it might not be as enticing.

Just my oppinion.

It reminds me an awful lot of the new Sam Jackson/Josh Hartnett film: Resurecting the Champ:

(at least in color choice and spacing)

my suggestion would be to make the release date info larger so when people see it they think, "fireproof, september". that's just my $.02

I like the look of this poster overall. However, I believe that the image is not a good example of Christian modesty. The term "eye-trap" comes to mind.

I realize my comments may seem harsh to some, but please carefully consider whether the current picture honors the Lord. Would it be possible to find a more decent picture that is not offensive to conservative Christians? Just some thoughts to consider from your brother in Christ.

I think that this poster is incredible. It is perfectly modest in the context of marriage. It is exciting in a way that will attract guys, but it is relational, which will attract ladies. The rings in the Title are a great touch.

The fire behind them is a nice effect, though it is not as realistic as perhaps it could be. Looks more like an orange gradient effect than a fire background.

But still, amazing image. Make Facing the Giants a little smaller...I think this movie will put Facing the Giants on the map, not the other way around, as great as that movie was...

Unknown said...

Not to be disrespectful of other people posting here, but the poster is completely modest. We've all seen our parents stand near one another (I even saw mine kiss once...), which is not only acceptable, but a beautiful public expression in right contexts of what marriage is and should be.

One of the major points of the movie is modesty and I think that this poster exemplifies that love and passion can be expressed modestly.

Thanks for the great work!

To clarify my earlier comment, it is not the pose of the actors that strikes me as immodest - it is the tight, form-fitting outfit of the woman that is inappropriate.

However, since David and Heather brought this up, I may as well address this issue also...

David is correct that it's perfectly okay for married couples to embrace as they do on this poster. However, it's worth pointing out that the actors in the poster are not married to each other. Is this appropriate? Would you want your wife embracing another man? Is God pleased by this?

Furthermore, just because something may be okay for a husband and wife to do in private does not mean that they are free to do the same in public.

Scott Eash said...

One more thing - if this were a Hollywood production, we might expect this sort of thing, and worse. But this is a Christian production that is supposed to honor the Lord!

We should expect better from Christian filmmakers.

I love the poster, however I think it needs a bit of tweaking - something to express the action of the movie, not just the love story.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but I could see (above the couple) the faces of the two main characters, but not serene pictures, maybe with expressions of them in the heat of an argument or battle.

I like the size of the "Facing the Giants" at the top (great idea), however the print of tag line, "Never leave your partner behind" needs something. If speaking it you would say it with passion... the print should be "passionate" too. (Italics maybe? Needs more than that though.)

I pray for you regularly, may the Lord bless this film more than the first two and bring glory to His Name!

Just wanted to reply to Scott's comments here...

I am quite surprised you find this inappropriate... I find it incredibly conservative! I really am not sure what you see here... perhaps you could elaborate?

Unknown said...

I like it. It is reminiscent of the movie poster for Backdraft. It's overall appearance catches the eye, but quickly draws your attention to the focus of the movie plot, the relationship between husband and wife.

I don't know how I can paint a clearer picture than what I said earlier. I spelled it out in graphic terms. Please read my three earlier comments again.

Secondly, I don't know how you define the word "conservative". Compared to what? Conservative compared to Hollywood's filth? Yes. Conservative compared to God's standard of purity? No. We have grown up surrounded by filth, and many of us are desensitized to it.

I understand that some Christians will never understand my point of view. That's okay. It's not my job to persuade everyone. I simply spoke up because they asked for feedback. Please regard my comments as a plea to take the "high road" and not a personal attack on anyone.

I love the poster it does look pretty neat, the colors are very attractive. Like m&c said, it would be neat to have the faces of Caleb and Caterine above the photo to fill some of the empty space. Maybe with both of their faces turned away from each other expressing their angst toward one another.
I also like the "Facing the Giants" title as is because it's an attention getter, people who saw and loved that movie will want to see this one as well.

Denise said...

Overall its a great poster.. Maybe have the names and faces of the main charaters of the movie somewhere visable? ( I like Liz's idea above)
I like the Facing the Giants up top but maybe have it just a little smaller.
I cannot wait to see this film!!

At first, I loved it. The main idea of the movie was expressed, which was the relationship between the husband and wife, and I really liked the fire background. Great idea, but as I looked a bit closer, the couple’s ‘embrace’ did strike me as more on the sensual side. It was just uncomfortable for a Christian video, because when people see that, they are more likely to think that it will have some inappropriate love scenes in it (which I am hopefully assuming there aren’t). I really love the idea of the silhouette, it makes a strong impression, so maybe if you just change the stance, perhaps them walking into the ‘fire’ holding hands, it would still portray that they are together, but not so much to the extent of the embrace. I am so excited to see the movie – Facing the Giants was so good and enriched with the Lord, I hope that the Kendrick Brothers stay true to the course of pleasing the Lord.

Great Colors, great everything. The emnbracing of the woman also catched me in a slightly sensual way. I dont like the way (but me "flesh does) how she presses her lower body on his. How does Kirk Cameron think about the picture? Maybe you could ask him.

Rachel said...

I don't see anything sensual or unchristian about the movie poster. Married couples do- or should -embrace, that does not mean it is always sexual in nature. From what I gather this movie is going to deal with some highly sensitive issues in marriage = pornography. In a situation like that it is easy for some christians may be worried about how to make a movie about certain issues without to making a movie that is crossing lines and compromising viewers or actors. I think we have to simply trust in the Kendrick brothers and the integrity they have always shown,
as well as the integrity of the actors involved. No doubt in a movie like this lots of things can be twisted into something it is not. just be clear of where you are in your christian mindset and what the world is putting in their.

I can wait for the poster to come out. I think it looks really great. I hope everyone can see how they really are making a movie to help people with their marriage. This is a couple on the frount and not 2 actors. It will be a wonderful tool to use in our home towns all over. Who has not had their marriage tested to be Fireproof or not.

Berad said...

I don't particularly care for the poster as it is not really the central theme of the movie... It's not until the end of the film that the resolution occurs and we see the couple back together, so the poster makes me think it's about one thing when it's really not... it would be like a picture of the Death Star blowing up as a poster shot for Star Wars.

I agree with the people who would like to have faces on it. I think that could be really nice. I love the colours though!

First of all, I'm REALLLLY looking forward to seeing this film, and showing it to my Firefighter coworkers!
I've agreed with some of the points that have been made so far, and to insert my two cents, I'd say it should maybe be adjusted a little...
At first glance, it just looked a little more sensual than what I (a fireman) would be looking to watch (even though undoubtedly the content will actually be fantastic)
Other than that, I think from a technical aspect everything looks outstanding!
Keep up the good work!

Maybe have Caleb with his arm around Catherine's shoulders??? Also if it is the main thing it might work to make it a little larger. Pretty good work though!

I agree that the line at the top should be one line. The characters seem to pop out...if that's what you are going for, it works. I would find a way to emphasize when it is coming out. I have seen your first 2 movies and have almost worn them out on dvd so I can't wait to see this. The trailer even made me cry. Thanks for shining forth God's light in such a dark world. ~Kimberly

Overall it has a nice look.

I'd like to see the rings look like they're glowing orange hot in part, like a platinum ring that starts to really heat up when you take a torch to it (I'm a jeweler so I can visualize this well)

It would symbolize the marriage being tested by fire but not consumed by it.

Tadabass said...

My first reaction was wow! It looks great to me.
I do agree with a few comments... like the Facing the Giants could be all on one line. Doesn't really bother me tho.
I would imagine the squarish dimension is because you do plan to put the movie info at the bottom later. That's almost a given.
As a woman, it appeals to me, but it might be good to put a picture or two of some action also.
As far as being modest...Get real. I think some Christians have higher standards than God Himself.
It seems fine to me & I am very conservative. We should be thankful God is using this church to put out films with such integrity.
Can't wait to see it. Keep up the great work!!! You are a blessing!

You've all given great comments, and I know the Kendricks will give us a great movie poster with all of your positive input.

I agree with David and Heather that this movie's impact will carry Facing the Giants into a rebirth at the box office where many more souls on need of that invitation to Christ may soon find it. I'm still giving away copies to all who will take one when the opportunity so share the film presents itself (God finds many mysterious and subtle ways to do this).

An overlay of two or three (no more) "action" stills from the film in the midst of the inferno, plus the usual production credits at the bottom (ala the Facing the Giants poster, which hangs in my law office), will complete the job nicely.

God is well served when all are called to Him, and each of us spreading the word and website links to the trailers (the new one is out today!) will carry the most appropriate message to those we speak to, regardless of the appearance of the "final" poster. How about two or three posters, perhaps one of those addressing Scott's modesty concerns?

I really think you guys are doing an incredible job here. I am praying for the impact of this movie and for your families and marriages.

Great poster! I agree with the Giant portion being just a bit smaller and the characters just a bit larger. But also, it may not be as clear as it might be about the context of a him being a firefighter if one knows nothing about the story. Maybe the fire truck on the left, if that is what it is, could be a bit more defined somehow. Can't wait for the film. The others were life-changing! God bless.

Beautiful shot with wonderful color. The layout is balanced and is entices the eye to travel the entire piece. Great layout!!

I have a new image for the rings.

Please contact me at markwilliamdesign@gmail.com

I can forward them to Kevin or whoever is handling this.

Take Behind out of the tag line, just let it be "never leave your partner" By adding behind to the end it will make people think of the left behind series since Kirk Cameron starred in those as well. I like the idea of the poster showing the couple looking at eachother with the fire in the background instead of embracing. You could even have the walking hand in hand towards the fire, I think them looking at each other would be the best. Again the only thing I can't stand is having the tag line ending with behind. Hey you asked!

Hi. I really liked it but I think it might look like a "chic flick" to the guys. I think we need to get them there too and if they think it's a "chic flick" they'll be less likely to go. I can't wait to see it. Thanks for another great movie!
