DVD Release Party

It’s the night before the DVD release of the No. 1 independent film of the year. The movie’s co-writer/producer has gathered with one of the executive producers, the lead actress, and three other members of the ensemble cast.

But if you’re looking for red carpets, camera crews from “Access Entertainment,” or famous Hollywood landmarks, you’ll be looking for a long time. After all, we’re talking about FIREPROOF here!

To celebrate the release of the movie on DVD, a team from Sherwood traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to meet and interact with nearly 500 fans at a great Christian store. For more than two hours, the team talked with and signed DVDs and books for their newfound friends.

Erin Bethea, Ken Bevel, and Jason McLeod meet FIREPROOF fans

“This is a great event,” said Stephen Kendrick, who was joined by Jim McBride, Erin Bethea, Ken Bevel, Harris Malcom, and Jason McLeod at Christian Supply. As he welcomed the crowd from the stage, he thanked store owner Chuck Wallington and the Christian Supply staff for hosting the event.

“We aren’t celebrities,” Stephen added. “We came to God with our five loaves and two fish … and God still uses those!”

People began arriving at the store at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 o’clock event. After hearing from the cast, they were able to meet the FIREPROOF team and have pictures taken with them.

Before that, Erin told the crowd how she had given up her job as an actress at Disney to make FIREPROOF … only to be offered her dream job there after filming concluded. “Trust the Lord with your desires and your goals,” she said. “He gave you your passions, desires, and abilities to serve Him.”

Ken told the crowd, “It’s a blessing to be here. God has done some awesome things in my marriage through FIREPROOF.” Harris, like Ken, said he brought no acting experience to his role as Caleb’s father. However, “I did have 30 years experience as a dad. We are thankful for the support of people like you that bought out show times and took your friends to see FIREPROOF.”

Jason, who played Eric Harmon in FIREPROOF talked about his first film role: Brock Kelly in Facing the Giants. “Little did I know that God would use that opportunity to change my life. If God can use someone like me, He’ll use anyone.”

It’s a message that FIREPROOF fans in Spartanburg—and around the country—hear loud and clear!

I was extremely happy that your movie was available as a dvd. We don't go to the theaters to watch movies. I have loved all your films and hope to see many more in the future. I am just afraid that hollywood and fame or even money will start influencing you all and that your movies will grow weaker in their messages. Don't back down. Keep on keeping on pleasing God! God is using you all and people are hungry for truth, unconditional love, and the encouagement to get back to doing things God's way instead of the preverted way of this world. As long as your movies continue to have the God-centered messages that they have, we can ignore some poor acting and will be buying your films and promoting them to everyone we meet.( Every member in my family has the Dvd purchased as a prebuy for Christmas.) My aunt bought a dvd for every child for valentines day. thanks again.

We had friends over after church today and they have been married for over 30 years. The wife of the couple told me about the movie and I just thought I would google it and see what it was about. I am surprised I hadn't heard about it before, because I am such a fan of Kirk's work. I am in my 50's and have been married for just over 4 years. (not the first for either of us) We recently have been struggling and ironically we just ended up here. We never thought anything would come between us or cause us conflict. We always said that "God saved the best for last, and everything is inconsequential" We thought that would get us through anything. Well we know we have some issues to work on and I will be looking for the DVD Monday morning as well as the journal for our own 40 days to work on ourselves. Thank you to all who worked on this film and journal to help those of us who will benefit.
God Bless You

I love that quote from Ken Bevel. Honestly though, I have a really hard time believing that he had no acting experience before the making of this film. He was one of the most believable and most lovable characters in the film. It really is a case of people living the world that they know on screen. I think those are some of the strongest characters in your films. Congratulations on the successful DVD release! If sales on our site (familychristianmovies.com ) are any indication, it seems like things are going well.

We watched the movie on YouTube, had heard about it on Focus on the Family, and several other Christian radio programs. Last night, my sister purchased a copy of the DVD and we watched it! :)

I love this film, I think that it has been super blessed by God, and I am so excited at the impact it is making in our culture!

God's richest blessings on Sherwood pictures and all of the people who were involved in this film!!
