Pop Quiz Time

Okay, it’s more like question time, but we wanted to get your attention.

In reading through all of the Blog comments, something has popped up somewhat regularly: “We didn’t see the movie in the theater, but we love the DVD.”

For those of you who DID NOT see FIREPROOF last fall, our question is: Why didn’t you see it in the theaters?

A) It didn’t play within an hour of my house
B) It didn’t play within 30 minutes of my house
C) I choose to not see movies in theaters
D) I never heard about it when it was in theaters
E) I just never got around to seeing it
F) Your reason here ...

Please let us know and feel free to elaborate if you wish. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hi! We didn't get to see it earlier for two reasons, one being that we choose not to see movies at theaters. We might have made an exception, but we live in Chile, and, as far as I know, it did not show here.
We loved it, and have watched it several times. We have also invited several couples from our church to show it to them. We intend to have them all over, eventually, two or three couples at a time.
I thought the Gospel was portrayed more clearly in this movie than any other I've seen.
I can't tell you how much my family enjoys Sherwood Pictures, and we can't wait to see what's next!

BTW, my kids have already told us that they want to go through Albany on our next furlough, just to see if you are shooting a new movie!

I didn't see it in the theater because I didn't know about the movie until a friend of mine gave me the book to read. Then I googled it on line and found a place to buy the movie! I had to see it! Thank you!

C) We choose not to see movies in theatres.

I might have made an exception for this one but I was working on a film and didn't get around to it.

I live in Canada and it didn't show here so I still haven't seen it but I'm working on it.

Did not see the movie in the theatre because we didn't know it existed until recently.
We are actually watching tonight with our Life Group from church.
We can't wait!

I live in Sacramento, CA, and I found out about the movie when I went in to the local Christian bookstore a few weeks ago. Other than that I had never heard of it. More than likely we wouldn't have seen it in the theater, anyways, as we have small children. We rented it from the Redbox around the corner on Sunday--I am so glad! It was a great movie. I had bought the book, The Love Dare, for my husband for Valentine's Day knowing that it had something to do with the movie but that's about it. I was so impressed with the movie that I think I'll be the first one to use the book!

I haven't seen it, and am anxious to get my hands on a copy. Our only theater is an hour away and it didn't show it.

We didn't get to see it because our house burned to the ground (literally) the day before the movie came out. We were too busy to think about going to the theater for a long time!
We really enjoyed seeing it on DVD though. We laughed and cried. The "I want out" scene made me cry with its intensity. There is alot of similar anger and hurt in this world. We had to send our foster kids out of the room because it was too realistic for them.
We suspected that Kirk Cameron had his wife in the silhouette kissing scene and were thankful to have it confirmed on the Internet. Way to go!
The girl who played the driver in the car on the tracks did an excellent job! She helped keep the tension palpable.
Keep making wonderful, God-honoring movies.

Hi, I didn't get to see it at the theatre, for as far as I know, I didn't get to the theatres here in the UK. Got this and Facing the Giants on DVD. Loved them both. Looking forward to the next one. God Bless

I was never aware that the movie was released, and would have gone to see it because of how much I loved "Facing the Giants." In the part of the country (DC/Baltimore) where I live it was probably in few if any theaters. When you get 30 miles into Virginia from DC, it's like being in the south, but in the DC area north through Maine, you are into the elitist northeast, where many people look down on southerners and people of faith.

Hey! Well, 2 reasons, one being that I don't really have the money and two being I just didn't get a chance to go. love you guys! God Bless~

I didn't know that it was at our local theater until it had one night left for showing. We already had plans for that night.

Hey yall,
I guess you could say I have about three reasons not to see it in theaters. We dont see movies at theaters, we like to get it from nexflic then buy it. And theaters are a while away from our house. And We chose not to see it at theaters anyways because we like to watch it at our own house. It saves on gas to buy it from nexfic. Its shipped right to the house:) but it is a great movie and I love it!

Hello- I couldn't get to the movie theater because it is hard to make time to go out with three kidlets :) It is easy timewise and on the budget to rent DVDs. If I would have known how impactful the movie was I would have made time to see it in the theater. I am sooo glad I rented it....lifechanging indeed.

E) I just never got around to seeing it

Don't often go to the movie theaters because of lack of time.

I do recall hearing of the movie but I usually don't watch non-cartoon movies at the theaters. I have 3 kids and it's hard to have them sit still unless it's a cartoon :D. I recently saw it and I have recommended it to a few of my co-workers. it's such a great movie!!

Hello! I did not see the movie when it came out in theatre because I actually refuse to pay the prices. I understand that it supports the movie and actors and production of it, but I am a student with my parents 100% support, so it's difficult for me to ask for extra cash when they already provide for other outsings.

As much as I wanted to see the movie, I kept hoping that one day it would happen... and i did. I rented the movie from the RedBox at the grocery store and watched it on Valentine's morning. I of course loved the movie or I wouldn't be commenting!!! It was amazing. Marriage is yet to occur in my future, but it, nonetheless, still touched my heart very deeply. It is such a powerful movie!!!

I really wanted to see this movie in a theater, but it wasn't showing anywhere within a 100-mile radius. So glad it's out on DVD because I loved it!

we just saw it on DVD tonite, and i think it has changed our lives...but we didn't see it in the theatre because i don't think it showed in our city - never heard about it. heard about it through Facebook & all the blogs.

fantastic!

Great question! My husband and I tried to see it, but the ticket taker told us the wrong theater. We sat and waited and wondered why all of these kids were coming into the theatre. After all of the previews, the movie finally started and it was "Twilight". Needless to say, hubby was quite upset because "Fireproof" in the correct theatre was already 20 minuts into the movie. We received a refund, but did not have another opportunity to see the movie. Thankfully, our church, Grace Bible Church of Central Florida is now showing the "Fireproof" as part of a fundraising event on March 13th at 7:00 p.m. Can't Wait!! - www.gbccf.org

I didn't see the movie in theaters because I didn't know about it then. I passed a church and saw it advertised for a showing at the church and I also heard people talk about it at work. The movie Fireproof really touched my heart and I'm sure it will help marriages that are broken to heal again. Great movie!

The movie was over 1 hour away, so didn't have a chance to attend in the theater. Although, we now just found out that a city (only 20 minutes away) had the movie last fall, but we didn't know about it. It never was on the website when I kept checking. My wife and I actually flew 1000 miles to see it in Montana when visiting our youngest son. He is 23 and single, but still enjoyed the movie!

I live in Canada and do not think that it played here. I did buy it as soon as it was available though.

The churches in our small town have gone together and are showing it Saturday night, February 21st. Pray with us for great impact!

Frances Clements said...

Really we were just slackers. 1. We generally don't watch movies at the theater (for financial reasons). We were willing to make an exception for your movie though because we had heard great things about it. (Our church even bought a theater and offered discount tickets.) 2. Procrastination was really what did us in. By the time that we got serious about finding a sitter, etc. it was gone.

I would have liked to see the movie in theaters but it did not show in Canada.

Hello,

I did hear about the movie and the scheduled release date at the theaters but the only problem we faced which was mentioned here in this blog was the challenge to find a nearby theater that carried the film.

Val said...

E) I just never got around to seeing it.

My husband and I had just recently seen Facing the Giants on recommendation from my aunt. And she mentioned that Fireproof was in the theater, but we were in a really busy season with a new baby and sick parents, so just didn't make it out. Especially since seeing this movie on DVD, I would have loved to see it on the big screen.

We just did not get around to it (5 kids!) We did see it on DVD at a local church. Awesome!

I have a question....who plays the pastor who is officiating the ceremony at the end of the film? I know him from somewhere and cannot figure it out!

Hi, We did not see the film at the theaters because of lack of money. We rented the film this week and it is the best film that I have seen in a long time. I cried through most of the film because the theme resonated so much in my life because of my current seperation from my husband. Thank you for creating this film and I hope to see more films like this more often.

We could not afford to go to the theater so we rented the video at our local Wegmans. What a great movie, I hope you make more like this.

Hi guys
I was shocked to watch this movie.I'm a Roman Catholic. My mom is protestant (german) and I live in Spain

I thank you so much for this movie. It is great! We need this stuff more than ever.

I DESPERATELY ASK YOU TO TRANSLATE THIS MOVIE INTO SPANISH ASAP. WE NEED THIS NOW.

At least with Spanish subtitles. This movie will be hit, a blast in our the box office.

God Bless America and you all.

reason F)We TRIED to see it opening day; a husband home late from work and a crying 1 year old intervened. Our eldest child wasn't comfortable with us leaving the toddler in her care at that time, as she was in the weaning and clingy time period. We rented Fireproof this last week, and are so glad we did. We actually got to watch an ADULT film that was not only clean, but edifying and entertaining. Our normal "date night" rentals are usually kids films, as very little else is acceptable for us to watch. Of course, kids films are usually fluffy and an inch deep. It was wonderful to watch a movie of substance. Thank you for giving us substance and striving for professionalism. When our budget permits, we will be purchasing. =)

I wanted to see it in the theater but am moderately hearing impaired in one ear and deaf in the other. I was concerned I would not be able to clearly understand all the conversations because most theaters aren't set up to use captions. Fortunately, the church I first saw it at had closed captioning and I was able to grasp what was being said over the appropriate laughter. Like "Facing the Giants", it is a movie that is worth seeing over and over. These movies have surely given honor and glory to our Lord.

I live in Mississippi and shortly after it was released, we tried twice to see it in a nearby theater but it was sold out both times. So I bought the DVD when it came out.

We didn't get to see FP in the theater because I was in a hospital bed as a result of losing an argument with a motorcycle. :-) By the time I was discharged from the rehabilitation center and was able to go out in public without large amounts of painkiller, the film was no longer in a local theater. We preordered the DVD and watched it the day it came in the mail.

My husband is away on military assignment, and while I did see the movie in the theater with my in-laws and children, my husband did not. He's still away now, and he said some of the guys around there have seen Fireproof (soldiers at Ft. Benning, GA), my husband has chosen to wait until he gets home to watch it with me. (I bought the DVD.) My husband is working toward the chaplaincy and hopes to use this movie as both a witnessing and counseling tool in his ministry.

I did not go see the movie because I was recently divorced and currently seeing another person.
Maybe out of fear of what I might see in the movie, or just sadness that I no longer had anyone to watch and reep the benefits with, since I was no longer married, and the man Im seeing and I were not at the point in our relationship where I felt comfortable watching a movie of that topic with.

Tonight I watched Fireproof. and in all honestly it hit me in several ways. I am a christian, however I have not been allowing myself to become a true child of God.
I have, Like Caleb, expected love, praise and acknowledgement when I do something for someone...most of the time.
I have noticed that I have forgotten that the God loves me because he knows no other way but to love me.
Like the movie mentions, God's love is not a feeling..but a covenent made to us long before we knew of God and his unconditional love forus.
Of all the things that I learned and that I will take with me, is that above all, love should not be swayed by feelings good or bad. It is a decision that once made should stick, and never be lost.
(Like the salt and pepper.)

I know now what to bring into my, God allowing, next marrige.
I think that I will even do the "Love dare" throughout my life..because like Caleb, "who says I have to stop at 40 days?"

This is a great movie, one that points out the real meaning of marrige..LOVE, patience, good or bad, forgiving, giving, LOVE, selfless and much much more.

I chose not to see it because of C. We chose not to go to movies because we cannot regulate what is in there - and we don't have the money on top of it!

Pastor Matt Furse said...

C) we don't want to support the theatre industry... however, we are truly blessed with what you have done! I am not a fan of CCM music, but what a powerful message your film is... after seeing "Facing the Giants" & hearing of Kirk's testimony... & the substitution of the actual "Mrs. Cameron" for the "kissing scene", I knew this was something I wanted to promote to our church youth (& adults)... I hope your future films will not try to compete with Hollywood--- you don't need to--- you've already surpassed them! Please keep it as is...filled with prayer & Spirit-filled, church volunteers! Praise God for what He is doing thru Sherwood!

Shawnalee said...

D. I never heard about it when it was in the theaters.

Wow, I am grateful that I was able to see this movie. This movie has such a powerful message.

Andrew Thomas said...

The general policy of my family is (C) We do not see movies in theaters. However, my dad was seriously considering making an exception for Expelled. So he probably also would have made an exception for Fireproof. The main reasons for not going to theaters are (1) atmosphere, (2) raunchy previews, (3) money, and (4) our church leaders' preference. But my dad said that he was glad that Fireproof stayed in the theaters for a good while because it meant that the movie was really reaching a lot of people.

We loved the DVD. God bless.

Saw it on DVD, we do not go to Theaters.
I watched it with my 10 yr old daughter. We had some wonderful dialog through the whole movie. It was easy to go right into talking about how marriages should be.
By the Way, My girls love Facing the Giants!
Know two couples who are contemplating divorce right now. Am hoping they will see the movie.
