Movies ... and TV
We know it would be impossible for you to go to every showing of FIREPROOF this weekend. So we have one other entertainment option for you: Huckabee. Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, now has a weekend talk show on the Fox News Channel, airing at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific both on Saturday and Sunday.
Why do we share this with you? Well, in addition to Mr. Huckabee endorsing the movie (“FIREPROOF is a gripping and powerful story. … I loved it and you will too!”), he has a couple of guests on his show this weekend you might enjoy seeing.
On the show this weekend are Alex Kendrick, the director and co-writer of FIREPROOF (and co-author of The Lovc Dare), and Jim McBride, one of the executive producers of the film. Jim and Alex (also known as coaches Bobby Lee Duke and Grant Taylor) will be discussing the movie that has become a movement!
Tune in and let us know what you think of the show! Now, who is ready to go see a movie this weekend?!?

Some Quick Updates
We wanted to get you caught up on a few things as we get ready for the fifth weekend of FIREPROOF, the No. 1 Inspirational Film in America!
For the first time, FIREPROOF did not finish in the Top 10 last weekend ... it was eleventh. Because it played in only a little more than 900 theaters, FIREPROOF still easily finished in the top 10 for per-screen average. With the film still playing in 883 theaters, including 84 new ones, it is possible the movie could return to the overall Top 10 this weekend!
Including theaters that have added (and subtracted) FIREPROOF since it opened on September 26, the total number of theaters that will have had FIREPROOF playing as of this weekend is 1,101.
We told you about the opportunity you had last week to bid on a jacket that Kirk Cameron wore during a scene in FIREPROOF. It turns out that the winning bid was $2,500, with all of the proceeds going to American Family Radio. Congratulations to all involved!
And finally, this is the 100th post on this blog ... thanks for following along and thanks for all of your great comments. Most of all, thanks for all you are doing to help people fall in love with FIREPROOF!

Who Knew?
Okay, admit it … you had little to no idea that Saturday, October 18 is Sweetest Day. ’Tis true. Now that you know, what will you do? Well, the FIREPROOF Blog has a suggestion: take your sweetie to see FIREPROOF this weekend! It will be a gift that you’ll both enjoy!
Okay, admit it … you had little to no idea that October is Clergy Appreciation Month. Again, ’tis true. So, what is a good way to show appreciation? How about FIREPROOF tickets for this weekend?
Sensing a theme here? Honestly though, how many movies are at theaters this weekend that not only affirm marriage but will also impact marriages? How many clergy members would not only benefit from the movie, but also then be able to encourage the entire congregation to experience the film?
Two celebrations, one movie: FIREPROOF. Now you know!

Singles Loving FIREPROOF
Take one look at the Stories section at FireprooftheMovie.com and you will find all kinds of examples about how FIREPROOF is impacting married couples. But what about singles? Well, thanks to the blogosphere, we have an answer:
“You need to go see FIREPROOF. Really, you do. I went tonight and was so glad I did.”
That’s what Pastor Nate Peregoy says on his blog. That, and well this:
“Most of all, it’s for everybody. Kids, parents, older couples, singles. Everybody. Each viewer learns about forgiveness. The movie speaks to all relationships and has application for us all as we accept and serve each other unconditionally. I’m usually not very good at this. But the movie helped put human skin on grace and helped us enter into the opportunities we have to bring love and peace to the lives of the people around us.”
Then there’s Nicky Story. Someone asked her to see FIREPROOF so that should could blog about it from a single’s perspective. Here are some of her thoughts:
“FIREPROOF, a story about love. I was truly moved by the movie, it is yet another example of love being a choice—not a feeling. Of course the film is about a married couple, but it is even more about the relationship we have with the Lord. Are we choosing to love Him, even when we don’t feel like it?”
Finally, we aren’t joshing about singles liking it. Take a look at what Josh said over at Just Joshing:
“It is an AWESOME Christian based film. I recommend it to everyone! While the storyline focuses primarily on marriage, there are also a lot of good lessons for single Christians to learn as well.”
Thanks for the great posts! And if you’re single and have seen the movie, we’d love to hear your thoughts in our comments area!

You Never Know Who Is In Your Theater ...
Take a look at this story passed along by Kirk Cameron ...
“I was in Charleston, West Virginia for a conference with my ministry partner, Ray Comfort. We were teaching Christians how to share their faith more effectively with everyday people. On Saturday night, Ray and I (and 14 others from our team) went to the 7:00 showing of FIREPROOF at a local theater. We slipped in about 30 minutes before the end, and when the credits rolled, the lights came up and I stood up and introduced myself to the audience.
“We had their rapt attention, as I’m sure its not every day people have the actor they’ve just watched appear and start talking to them. I spoke of some of the highlights of FIREPROOF, how marriage is to honored above all, and explained how the woman I kissed in the movie wasn’t Erin Bethea, but instead was my real wife who was specially flown for the scene. That was our way of honoring marriage both on and off the screen.
“Then I introduced Ray, and he preached the gospel. It was beautiful. As we made a quick exit, a tall man in his 30s ran after us and said that he wanted to surrender his life to Christ. ‘I want to be saved. I need to be saved!’ he said. We found a quiet place in the hall and prayed with him. It was sweet icing on the cake of a night.”

Bid on Caleb’s Jacket!
Our friends over at American Family Radio (AFR) told us about an eBay auction item that you might be interested in bidding on. Back in November on the FIREPROOF Production Blog, you learned about media outlets visiting the set of FIREPROOF in Albany, Georgia. We even had a picture of AFR morning man JJ Jasper interviewing Stephen Kendrick.
Well, an interesting thing happened when JJ was on the set. One of the evening shoots included a scene where Caleb Holt goes outside to call his father. As is wont to be the case in late autumn, it was pretty chilly that evening. After a few takes, Kirk Cameron mentioned how cold it was getting. JJ graciously offered up his jacket and sure enough, that is what Kirk is wearing when he makes a key phone call.
Afterward, Kirk signed the inside panel of the jacket. Now, the jacket is available on eBay! And best of all, the full amount of the purchase price goes to AFR, the commercial-free radio network, which is in the midst of their Sharathon. The jacket auction lasts until early Saturday morning.
So, here is your chance get a piece of FIREPROOF ... and a nice jacket to boot! (btw: get well soon, JJ!)

Blog-o-Rama
Lots of really great stuff to share with you ... which works great, because they are all about you sharing FIREPROOF with others!
First, we have great news about this coming weekend. After three consecutive finishes in the Top 10, FIREPROOF will actually be playing in more theaters than ever this weekend. It will be in 905 theaters, including exactly 100 that will have it for the first time. Thanks to you telling people and them telling others, a movie made by a church is flummoxing the movie industry!
Next, on iReport.com, LAGirl posted a review of FIREPROOF that includes this great line: “You get laughs, you get cries and you leave entertained.”
Finally, it looks like some of you have been interviewing Kirk Cameron (aka Caleb Holt). Uinterview.com has posted its unique brand of regular-people interviews with Kirk:

Quite a Day!
It’s official: FIREPROOF is once again in the Top 10! It took most of the day Monday for it to become official (in contrast to the estimations you may have read in your Monday newspaper), but it was worth the wait!
For all three weekends since the film opened, FIREPROOF has finished in the Top 10. This week, 17 movies were showing on more screens than was FIREPROOF... but only three of them had a better per-screen average.
And if that wasn’t amazing enough, when the New York Times bestsellers’ lists came out earlier today, The Love Dare was No. 1 on the paperback advice list.
A top-ten movie three weeks running. A No. 1-bestseller.
Thank you. For seeing this movie. For taking friends to see this movie. For telling your family to go see this movie. For blogging about this movie. For challenging yourself to take the dare. For honoring God with your marriages.
Talk about exceedingly, abundantly ...

The Weekend Is Here: Time for a Movie!
Like every weekend throughout the year, you have lots of options when it comes to seeing a movie. Hundreds of movies will be released by Hollywood this year—big studios as well as small independent films.
Many even mock your beliefs … some subtly, some with much fanfare.
And then there’s FIREPROOF. If you haven’t seen it yet, make the time this weekend. If you’re wondering if it’s worth the time and money involved, take a look at what these folks say.
If you’re one of the approximately 2 million people that have already seen this movie: thanks!
You know the impact that this story of hope and renewal is having. Do you know someone in your neighborhood, at church, at work, at school, at home that needs to hear this message as well?
Invite them to go see FIREPROOF this weekend. Go with them. Or offer to watch their kids. While it’s still playing in nearly 900 theaters across the country, do whatever you can to get your friends to see FIREPROOF ... a movie that could make a difference in their lives.
After all, it’s not every weekend you can do that!

Quick Media Updates
As FIREPROOF begins its third week in theaters across the nation, the media is still intrigued by the story of a church making a movie that is impacting the box office ... and more importantly, impacted marriages!
As of this moment, FIREPROOF is the lead story on the CNN entertainment home page. It links to this story. In addition Kirk Cameron, who plays Caleb Holt, will be featured on the weekend edition of the syndicated entertainment program Extra. Check your local listings to find the program.
And in a 3-star review for the Roanoke Times & World News, Jeff DeBell writes:
“At just over two hours, Fireproof is a bit long as movies go. But a credible story about building good marriages -- and healing sick ones -- should be worth at least that much of anyone’s time.”

Internet Safety
“Be careful little eyes what you see.”
That Sunday school song is part of the Casting Crowns song “Slow Fade,” which can be heard in FIREPROOF.
One of the challenging subplots in the movie is Caleb’s parasite, as The Love Dare calls it. Caleb takes drastic measures to rid himself of his parasite. It appears to have inspired at least one moviegoer who commented on the Blog:
“I just wanted to testify that God has broken my addiction to pornography because of a scene in the movie, FIREPROOF. After watching Kirk Cameron destroy his computer rather than face temptation, I knew that’s what I had to do. I destroyed my laptop and threw it in the trash. Since then, I’ve felt freedom like never before! I had been addicted for over 20 years. Praise God!!”
Knowing addictions aren’t always cured so quickly, InternetSafety.com is offering a 30-percent discount on their Safe Eyes blocking software. Just use fireproof as your coupon code. It could make a world of difference in your home:
“The movie impacted our family in a very unusual way. After seeing it, our 14-year-old son confessed to us in tears that he had been battling an internet pornography addiction for over a year. … The movie moved him to action, and he is working with us to prevent this from happening again. Thank the Lord for using this tool to bring conviction to his heart.”
“FIREPROOF addressed the main issues that my husband and I have been going through. I think this movie really showed him how it makes a wife feel to have to deal with those issues. I pray this movie really helps not only my marriage but all the other people who face the same type of issues in theirs.”

A Theater Reports In
Both in the Stories section of FireprooftheMovie.com and here on the Blog, you have the opportunity to read some amazing tales of lives and marriages being impacted by FIREPROOF. Well, we have a different kind of story for you today.
Jon Durkovic, the manager of The Grand Theatre in Fitzgerald, Georgia wrote to tell us about how the movie is being received in his theater:
“Thank you for including The Grand Theatre in the list of theaters opening FIREPROOF September 26. We are having a good run with it and our community is seeing some changes. One night, there was an impromptu prayer meeting in the auditorium after the show to deal with some of the issues a couple was having. They started out renewed last night as they left the theatre.
“We have had 1,210 people see the film so far. Not bad for a small community in rural South Georgia! It has had an impact already in our town and I know we are just seeing the beginning of renewal.
“I know there have been hundreds of reports from people on how this film has affected their lives. I had not read any from the theatre staff, though. I just wanted to say thanks again for including us.
“Congratulations to all for the success of the film, but mostly, thank you for the successes it is causing in our country.”
Thanks Jon!

A Dozen Good Reasons to See FIREPROOF
We are delayed in sharing this, but our friends at ChristianBook.com recently let their customers know 12 reasons why they recommend FIREPROOF:
- We believe in the mission of the producers, who are trying to influence the culture positively from a Christian perspective through mainstream media.
- Fireproof reaffirms the sacred institution of marriage in a culture plagued by divorce.
- The movie strongly advocates faith, family, and Christian values.
- It dramatically displays the power of forgiveness.
- The film is a product of Sherwood Pictures, a media ministry that grew out of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, whose goal is to reach the world for Christ.
- Fireproof presents God as the source of unconditional love.
- You can take the same 40-day challenge as Caleb does in Fireproof with The Love Dare.
- The profits from Sherwood's last film, Facing the Giants, were used to build a sports complex to serve the needs of youth in Albany, Georgia, and to show them the love of Christ in community.
- No matter where your marriage is, you can relate to the real-life struggles portrayed in this film.
- Fireproof reminds us that no situation is too desperate for God to redeem—that with God, all things are possible.
- Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick credit this film, and its focus on marriage, as being not just a good idea, but a God idea.
- Any movie that has in its credits a "prayer coordinator," you should see.
Playing Well in the Big City
The New York Times has long been referred to as that nation’s paper of record. A week after a fairly positive review of FIREPROOF ran in the Times, there is now record of the paper writing an equally positive feature story about Sherwood Pictures and the success of both the movie and The Love Dare.
Entitled “It’s a Healthy Marriage of Faith and Filmmaking,” the article quotes executive producer Michael Catt along with Alex Kendrick, the director and co-writer of the film, and Kirk Cameron, the lead actor. The story includes this paragraph:
“For Mr. Kendrick, there is only one explanation for the successes of ‘Fireproof’ and ‘The Love Dare.’ ‘We’re not trained and smart enough to make successful movies and write best-selling books,’ he said. ‘The only way that this could happen is if after we prayed, God really answered those prayers.’”

Hello to Hollywood
Last night, FIREPROOF was highlighted on the ABC evening news. We are still looking to get a copy of that report to include on the blog. For now, you can read this story on the ABC News website.
While FIREPROOF has garnered a lot of attention, many in the movie industry think it was a one-weekend wonder. With an anti-Christian (in fact anti-any-faith) movie opening this weekend, many are thinking the audience for that type of film is as big (if not bigger) than the audience for FIREPROOF.
We hope you will strongly encourage anyone you know that would enjoy this movie or benefit from its message to see FIREPROOF this weekend ... and you could join them! Perhaps then, Hollywood will hear you a little bit more clearly!
See you at the movies!

More “Waiting”
John Waller’s song, “While I’m Waiting” plays a central role in FIREPROOF. This wonderful song fits perfectly with the heart of the movie and, as you watch it again below, you see that it also fits perfectly with the story of the film.
John recently posted his thoughts about the “marriage” of his song and the movie on his website:
“Along with millions of others, I am truly amazed how God is using Fireproof to heal and strengthen marriages, and also to 'shame the wise" in Hollywood with mind-boggling results at the box office during opening weekend. I am so humbled that "While I'm Waiting" was not only used in its entirety in the film, but is also making a huge impact on people's lives who resonate with its message of hope in the midst of a painful wait. Please encourage as many as possible to go see this wonderful movie and may this song bless and encourage you!”
As with the other songs in the movie, “While I’m Waiting” is available as part of a special FIREPROOF iMix download on iTunes. It can also be purchased at your local Christian store as part of John’s album, The Blessing. You can also download the album or the single on iTunes.

A Kiss of Intrigue
We just posted a new FAQ in the About section at FireprooftheMovie.com. Seems like a lot of people missed what Kirk Cameron had to say about the big kissing scene when he was doing media appearances before the opening of FIREPROOF.
As the FAQ answer says in part: Sherwood Pictures has upheld this standard in all their movies: actors and actresses should guard their own marriages while on screen the same way they would do in real life. ... Kirk also has long held to a principle that he would kiss no woman other than (his wife) Chelsea. He was able to honor his marriage while making a movie that inspires others to do the same.
You can find out more by reading this story or watching a segment featuring Kirk on NBC’s Today Show. Let us know what you think!

We Are Back!
After a bit of delay caused by an unexpected removal from Blog world, followed by an overwhelming amount of follow-up to an amazing opening weekend (thanks to all of you!), the FIREPROOF Blog has returned!
Now that the applause has faded, it is good to be back. We will try to get caught up on posts and comments over the course of the weekend (and speaking of weekends, that is a great time to take a friend or a couple with you to see FIREPROOF).
For now, we have been amazed, touched, and overwhelmed by the stories you have shared on FireprooftheMovie.com. One thing that would be great as we get caught up is if you have blogged about FIREPROOF since it opened, post a link in the comments area. It will be great to read.
Again, thanks for all you have done and continue to do to help FIREPROOF make an impact on marriages across the country!
